The Material
What is UPVC?
UPVC — Unplasticized Polyvinyl Chloride — is a strong, rigid and highly durable material commonly used in construction and outdoor applications.
Unlike standard PVC, it contains no plasticisers, making it tougher, weather-resistant and highly durable. It won't rot or warp like timber, requires very little maintenance, and is ideal for horse jumps designed to withstand everyday use and Irish weather.

Fillers build boldness when they are introduced properly. Work through the levels at your horse's pace.
Fillers are about confidence, not height. Introduce them low and slow.
01Stand the filler beside the fence first, not underneath it, and let the horse walk past it both ways.
02Move it under the pole but pushed slightly to one side so daylight remains.
03Only centre the filler once the horse jumps it without hesitation.
04Keep the pole low while the filler is new — the filler is the question, not the height.
TipIf a horse stops, don't raise the fence. Lower it, re-present quietly, and reward the effort.
Use fillers to change how a fence reads without changing what it measures.
01Swap the filler between fences each session so the horse jumps what it sees.
02Pair two fillers under a wider fence to build a solid, inviting spread.
03Introduce hanging fillers, which ride airier than standing ones.
04Jump filler fences off both reins and off a shorter turn.
Filler work is competition preparation.
01Build a course where every fence carries a different filler, as it would at a show.
02Set a filler fence immediately after a turn to school focus under pressure.
03Combine a hanging filler with an airy top rail to sharpen a careless front end.
04Introduce new fillers a fortnight before a competition, never the week of it.
TipAlways fit FEI-standard safety cups on the back rail of any oxer, work on level, well-maintained going, and wear a helmet and body protector.
General guidance only. Always school within your own and your horse's ability, on safe going, with FEI-standard safety cups fitted on back rails and a competent person on hand.
